IMPACT WEAPONS

The Impact Weapon In Pekiti-Tirsia is representative of the edged weapon. It was used often as a practice weapon for developing advanced technique for the Blade. However there are specific variations for using the Impact Weapon in Peiti-Tirsia.

The Impact Weapon differs from the Edge Weapon in the obvious fact that it cannot cut and thereby it must produce the maximum PSI on the most effective targets. Muscle and Flesh are not good targets for the Impact Weapon as they only deliver pain or bruises. Specific "Bone Areas" of the body are far better targets for when they are hit with the proper form and force, they can better disable the attacker from being a continuing threat to you or your family.

That being said, even if you do hit the specific "Bone Areas" of the body with the adequate force required, you may still NOT stop an attacker immediately. Therefore training with the Impact Weapon must be rigorous and consistent in order to develop the power needed to significantly damage a "Bone Area" on the body. Plus the Endurance and Proper Technique must exist in the fighter in order to deliver multiple blows and flow into multiple techniques without having the weapon taken from you or dropped from your grip from being tired.

Bottom line the Impact Weapon does not always disable immediately. It must be used in a series of continuous attacks on several targets until the threat to you or your family is no longer there. This too requires a certain mind set and understanding in your training to develop the will and ability to use this weapon well.

Pekiti-Tirsia certainly provides the student with the proper training and mind set to develop this skill if the student applies his/her self. Sparring is done with the "Rattan Sticks" which are much lighter than the "Hard Wood" sticks and thereby limit injuries to the student. One may get stung with a Rattan Stick but it is nothing like being hit with the heavier Hard Woods or other materials.

This enables the student to get a very realistic fighting experience and understanding of how the weapon moves, can be countered and recountered. However one must equally train on the tire with the Hard Wood or Heavier Material Impact Weapon in order to have the arm strength and endurance to use that weapon in real fighting.
